Washington City Paper: Vice Principles
Washington DC councilmember Kenyan McDuffie recently submitted legislation which would limit the number of marijuana cultivation centers and dispensaries within any single ward. On the same day, his office filed a bill promoting distillery pubs, stating that the bill “will bring a significant economic impact to our Ward and the city by creating new jobs and tax revenue generated by increased sales of craft distilled spirits.”
These concurrent bills raise the question of whether it makes sense for city officials to favor one drug over another. Professor Bridget Freisthler’s research findings on the relationship of crime and the availability of both marijuana and alcohol are reference in the article. Click here to view full article.
